The first thing you have to do is to complete FAFSA, (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Private Student Loans with Bad Credit - Chase - Sallie May - Citigroup
    Friday, March 14th, 2008

piggybank.jpgPrivate student Loans is another alternative that comes into force rescuing students who have a bad credit history. I have heard of many cases where students apply for loans as a supplement with their Stafford or Perkins loans. In other cases, I have seen people applying for student loans with private organizations when their Stafford loan amount comes to an end.

There are many financial institutions that offer private student loans with bad credit. The only fuss in the deal is the requirements of the financial institutions. Most entities that I know of providing this service would require a Co-borrower or a Co-Signer. This means as a student you and your parents would need to sign on the loan agreement agreeing to repay the loan.

Student Loans for People with Poor Credit
    Wednesday, December 26th, 2007
student-loans-for-people-with-poor-credit.jpg Many postpone their college studies till their adult years as costs are prohibitive. Many a times they have a tough time getting their loan application approved due to bad or no credit history. In such cases, these adults should know that there are student loans for adults with poor credit available.

It is possible to attain poor credit student loans even if you have a bad credit record. These days several banks have accustomed themselves to suit to the needs of all its customers as per the competition norms in the market. If there is a way out of the situation, they will be more than willing to help you.

Student loans poor credit is an advantage for those meritorious students for whom funding is a problem. Money is then no more a matter of hindering the talented students to come up and get their share under the sun. However, student loans for poor credit rated students/adults would undoubtedly carry a higher rate of interest than any other loan. This is so because the bank is taking a great risk in offering you the loan. Hence, to accommodate the risk factor they charge a higher rate of interest.

Mostly the banks would create a database file of the student in which they would put in all the necessary details of the student. These details would prove beneficial to the bank to assure them of the repayment guarantee. Poor credit history student loans do not offer the student any extra benefits. If the bank is satisfied with the student record then it may offer some favourable terms. But in case you have an unfavourable rating then the banks would be least interested to offer you any kind of loan.

U.S. House panel approves student loans crackdown
    Friday, November 16th, 2007
security.jpg WASHINGTON, Nov 15 (Reuters) - A U.S. congressional committee on Thursday approved a bill to crack down on deceptive marketing practices in the $85 billion student loan industry, while urging colleges to restrain tuition inflation.

The House of Representatives Education Committee adopted the measure by a vote of 45-0 after scandals involving kickback schemes and conflicts of interest among lenders and some college officials embarrassed the industry and academia.

Under the bill, lenders and colleges would be required to adopt codes of conduct on loans; students and parents would get more information about borrowing; and, for the first time, colleges would be explicitly pushed to rein in tuition hikes.

“This bill includes meaningful steps to hold colleges and universities accountable for excessive tuition increases,” said California Rep. Howard McKeon, the panel’s top Republican. (more…)

Getting to the Top of the Hill
    Monday, October 22nd, 2007
climbing.jpg Jill Adams’ first job in communications had her hobnobbing with U.S. congressmen and women, receiving visiting dignitaries, flying on Air Force One — a far cry from her previous job slinging burgers in Kansas City, Mo.

Typical of most kids starting out, Adams held a number of unglamorous jobs in high school and college. But as a student in D.C., Adams heard about a job opening in a California congressman’s office, applied, and shortly after graduation found herself writing press releases and information packets about Rep. Glenn Anderson during the Ronald Reagan administration.

The job included attending events with D.C. politicos, and Adams was once sent as an Anderson representative to a “baptism” ceremony for a submarine in Groton. She went in style, flying on Air Force One, and spent the ceremony sitting behind then-Vice President George H.W. Bush.

“As a 24-year-old, that’s pretty exciting,” she said.

Today Adams is president of Avon’s Adams & Knight Advertising, but her path wasn’t a straight one. (more…)

    Tuesday, October 16th, 2007
study_abroad.jpg Federal PLUS loans are offered to parents to complement other student loans provided directly to the students. These loans are usually awarded because Federal student loans are granted with the idea that parent will contribute to the student’s studies financing and thus, the amount offered on students loans isn’t usually enough. Therefore, for parents who can’t complement student loans with savings, PLUS loans come in very handy.

Yet, this was the original idea of PLUS loans. However, since these loans are not awarded according to the needs of the applicant, there is no particular requirement as regards to the purpose. Therefore, using them for financing study abroad programs is an excellent choice and they have proven to serve the purpose very well. More and more parents are requiring these loans to pay for these programs every year.

Including Study Abroad Programs On PLUS Loans

It is possible to include study abroad programs on plus loans. (more…)
