Master's Degree: One of several degrees granted by graduate schools.

Master Promissory Note: The legally binding document signed upon application for an educational loan. The promissory note is a contract between the borrower and lender that lists the conditions under which monies were borrowed and the terms under which they must be repaid.
 
Maturity Date: The date a loan reaches its maximum payment period and must be paid in full.
 
Merit-based Aid: Financial aid based on special talent or ability instead of financial need. Money for education awarded through contests, competitions, or certain scholarships is an example of merit-based aid.
 
 
Missing Information Letter (MIL): The Missing Information Letter (MIL) is created for and mailed to the student with an incomplete student record. Students are instructed to access their My To Do List on myUNT for information about the outstanding documents..
 
Multiple Data Entry Processor (MDE): A company that processes the FAFSA forms submitted by students. The College Scholarship Service (CSS) and PHEAA are both MDE Processors.
